tie cost thereof throughout Australia, and also other transport systems. The railway mileage in Australia is 25,805, and the capital cost £312,000,000; of, which £300,000,000 is for State-owned railways. The effect of motor and other competition, with the railways is shown by ; the fact that within th e last three years the railway losses amounted to £11,000,000. The committee estimates the number of motor vehicles in Australia is 565,000.
