TUG OF WAR

MIDHIRST CONTEST. There was again a packed audience at Midhirst last night for the Finals in the tug-of-war tournament, run in aid of the Midhirst Foothall Club's funds. Details of the pulls are as follows: Third round.— Foundry B (two, wins) defeated Midhirst (one win); Tuna (two wins) defeated Factory A (one win) j Foundry A (one win) defeated Toko (one win); Factory B (one win) defeated Cross Roads (two wins). Toko, Midhirst and Factory A were thus eliminated.

Fourtji round.— Foundry B '(3 wins) beat Cross Roads (two wins); Foundry A (two wins) beat Tuna (three wins); Factory B a bye. Cross Roads was eliminated. Semi-final.— Factory B (two wins) defeated Tuna (three wins); Factory B (four wins) defeated Foundry A (three wins). At this stage it was realised that a mistake had been made in ttoe draw for the semi-final, as obviously Foundry B (five wins) could not contest the final with Factory B (only three wins). The promoter* therefore declared Foundry B the winners and Foundry A runners-up. The final of the lightweight pulls resulted in Midhirst A defeating Cross Rbads. In an impromptu lightweight pull Tuna defeated Midhirst B.
