TARANAKI BAND CONTEST

arrangements completed

MEETING AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

Preliminary arrangements for the band contest to be held in New Plymouth in April were completed at a meeting held at Ney Plymouth hist night. Mr. P. Skoglund, Stratford, president of the Taranaki i ipe a,l -d Brass Bands Association, was in attendance and said the contest was being held to encourage the bands of the smaller towns.. He said £l5O would be required to pay prize money and incedental expenses. Any profits would go to the fund being built up for the purpose of subsidising the smaller hands.

The following executive to arrange the contest was elected: Messrs J. McLeod, P. O. Staiuton, G. Champion, H. V. £'. Griffiths, S. G. Smith, C. C. War'd, E. Jackson, F. Newall, 'A. L. Humphries, C. Carter, P. J. Flarinagan, C. Hannan, the Rev. R. B. Gosnell and Archdeacon P. G. Evans. Mr F. S. Nicholson was- appointed secretary.

The programme suggested was quickstep iu the afternoon and selection in the evening.

Mr Estall, conductor of th e Woolstcn Band, was appointed judge for the contest.

A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Skoglund for outlining the campaign.
