monthly meeting. I The monthly meeting of the Domain Board wa s held last night, when there were present; The Mayor (Mr. J. AV. McMillan), Crs. IT. ('. North, C. .Moore, J. McKee, A. Nelson, 11. F. Harkness, AV. H. Kelly, N. B. Fletcher, and S. A. Ward, Messrs. G. B, Finnerty, P. Thomson and H. C'. Johnson. the operatic society. The secretary of the Operatic Society (Mr. C. J. Hickson) wrote, asking whether the Board would, be willing to accept £25 in settlement of the account between the two bodies for £3B 3s 44, due by the Society to the Board as a result of me Jubilee performance of “'The Arcadians.’’ The reasons for the request rvero that the performance resulted in a loss of £7O irrespective of the amount due to the Board; that, alter arrangements with the Society were completed, the Jubilee Committee arranged open-air attractions which seriously affected the Society’s takings; and, that if the. full amount was now insisted on , pi actu ally the whole of the Society’s cash balance would be absorbed. The Mayor said that the newspaper report of the Society’s annual meeting stated that after paying all accounts the Society had a credit balance of £3O Which statement was correct? Cr. McKee: I thought we decided that wo would do nothing in the matter until we saw their balancesheet. The Mayor said the money had been put to the grandstand fund and if a rebate was made, the deficiency would have to be made up, most likely out of the ratepayers’ pockets. The Town Clerk: The Society had the use of the Town Hall for all rehearsals free of rent. On the Mayor’s motion it was decided that no rebate be made. APPRECIATION. Mr. M. Condon, secretary of the Te Hoti picnic committee, wrote to the Town Clerk as follows: “I have been directed by the Te Boti picnic committee to ask you to convey to your Council the committee’s best thanks for the use of the park -and also the hot water for their picnic. J, would like to assure you that the grounds and appointments were enjoyed by all present. AVe hope to be with you again next year.—Beceivcd. GENERAL. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs. G. Smart for a donation of Bulbs. Mr. J. E. Crockett, secretary of the Cycle Club, wrote stating that Mr. T. Kirkwood had been appointed. track guardian and would instruct riders regarding the welfare of the track in Victoria Park, both during training and racing—The letter was received, and it was further decided to reduce the fee for using the park for training to 2s Gd.
