ALLAN WILKIE AND TOWN HALL CHARGES
REBATE REFUSED, TARIFF MAY BE REVISED. A letter was read at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council from Air Allan Wilkie, protesting against the system of charging for the Town Hall. This letter hag previously appeared in the “Post”. The Works Committee "reported: Wo cannot recommend acceding to Mr WPxie’s request. We suggest that the Town Hall tariff he revised. Gr. Ward said the present tariff had been drawn np many years ago, when travelling companies were much more numerous than they weije at the present dav. The revis. ion should only h© in regard to trav. elling companies. The dnarges for 100, al shows were already low 1 enough. The Mayor thought that if the tariff was reduced Mr Wilkie should be erven (a rebate. Cr, HafSness said this would create ai precedent. At the same time he thought the present tariff had the effect of driving good companies away. v
Hie Mayor moved 'that it be a recommendation to the in.comin.fr Conn, cil to make a rebate to Mr Wilkie *if the tariff was reduced. Cr. Moore seconded.
Cr, Ward could! not see why a present should be made to Mr Wilkie. Many companies had come to Stratford and had had a worse run than Mr Wilki© andi got no rebate, _Cr Fletcher agreed with Ors Ward and Harkness. Mr Wilkie knew dir conditions before he agreed to take the hall and he was not entitled to any rebatf. The Mayor’s motion was lost and the committee’s recommendation was adopted).
