LAST NIGHT'S MEETINGS. THE DOMAIN BOARD. The Horticultural Society having planted about 7000 bulbs in the ground near the band-room, the caretaker asked that something be done to the fences to prevent cattle trespassing. XX X X A motor mower with a 19-inch cut is to be given a trial and if suit- « able is to be purchased. AA A X The plan for the beautification of the northern bank of the lake Ui Victoria Park, submitted by the Horticultural Society, was approved. A vote of thanks was passed to the Society. XXX Mr H. C. Johnson reported that several people had offered £5 each for five years to pay for keeping the northern bank tof the lake in Victoria Park in order. XX X X Bulbs Jfor Jfche: gardens in Victoria Park have been donated by Mrs 0. Curtis and Mr Corkill. XX X X The matter of granting further 1 ground to the Stratford Tennis Club for extension of their Courts was left to the Works Committee, with power to act. XX X X The Borough Foreman reported that Mr Lester had donated twelve boxes 'of seedlings for Victoria Park. BOROUGH COUNCIL. Page Street has been regraded and metalled from Miranda Street to the camp site gate, and. is ready for tarring. . ■ ■
XX X X Broadway North has been repaired and bitumen-sealed from the borough boundary to Seyton Street. Broadway South has had the sides repaired, been widened and bitu-men-sealed from the borough boundary to Lear, Street'. XX X X The drainage extension in Hamlet Street, Page Street and Percy Avenue is in hand, and the material is on the, ground for the extension in Regan Street. XX X X The peak load of 305 K.V.A. was registered by the electrical system, on Christmas Eve, this being) the same as for 1927. This point was reached] several timies during the quarter, but not exceeded. XXX There are now 108 ranges on. the electrical system, an increase for the past year of 27. In 1925 there were 22, 35 were added in 1926, and 3.0 in 1927. T X X Thirty-five people have received notices from the Inspector to cut noxious weeds, and eight have Been, requested to clean up their hackyards. XXX The trusses used in the construction of Victoria Bridge, which have since been' on the Council's hands, have been disposed of to a Taranaki contracting firm. . ,' XXX A by-law for the regulation of offensive trades, submitted by the Medical Officer of Health, is to be added to the Borough by-laws. XX X X Timetables ffolr service cars lare to be posted near the service car stands. XX X X It was decided to erect a further groyne and grating at the, water supply head-works, in order to minimise the risk of blockage of, the pipes. XXX The Council adopted the tariff rates for water heating recommended by the Eelctrical Engineer in "November last.
