MAGISTRATE'S COURT
STRATFORD SITTING. In the absence of Mr Ri. W. Tate, S.M., owing to indisposition, Messrs Ci. E. Wilson and W. Mclnnes, J's.P., presided at this morning's aUiting of the Magistrate's Court at Stratford. The case in which Lawrence H. Beadnall was charged with driving a motor car in a dangerous manner and also with driving a motor car without light!-! was adjournal till next Court day. Jim Donald was lined 10s, with costs 12s, for riding a bicycle, at night without lights. A fine of 10s, with costs 10s, was inflicted on Raymond S. Carter on a charge of driving a ffptor cycle without being the holder of a motor drivers' license. Defendant 'said he was not the owner of a motor cycle,*and was trying one out for a friend. jlor riding a bicycle on a footpath. Alexander Ritchie was fined 5s witih costs 10s. Harold M. Lee was further re-manded-till next Court day on charges of disorderly . behaviour. and bread of prohibition order. A first-offending drunkard was convicted and discharged. For driving a gig after dark with-, put a light,. Eric Smith was fined 10s, with costs 10s. A CLOSE SHAVE.
David Fraser, driver of a service
car, wrote pleading guilty to a charge of driving a car over a rail-
way crossing when a train was approaching. He said that as he approached the crossing he looked back •but could not see the train, and he was a chain down the road before he saw it on the crossing. When he saw the train it was too Mo to stop his car/ Sergeant Power said that the engine-driver of the tram reported that the car cleared the train by only forty feet. The train wa* travelling immediately behind tile car, and whistled frequently ion approaching the crossing. A fine of 30s, with costs 10s, was imposed. DANGEROUS DRIVING. Stanley H. Lee pleaded not guilty to a c'harge of driving a motor car in a manner dangerous to the public, and alsto) of driving; a car 'at a speed exceeding twenty miles per hour within the borough.
Constable said at 8.20 p.m. on December 25th last he saw.,,the car go "over "the intersection Of Regan Street and Broadway at 35 to 40 miles per hour.
The Rorugh Inspector (Mr A. E. Sayers) estimated the speed at 32 to 35 miles per hourIn evidence, defendant said he was travelling at no more than 25 miles per hour. On the charge of dangerous driving a fine of £l, with costs 10s, was imposed. ' •
