That the Department of Health hoped that hospital fees should he increased throughoutsthe Dominion was the statement made by Dr. T. H. A. Yalintind, Director-Gener-al of' Health, in an interview with the Waikato Hospital Board this morning. Members protested against the increase as being unfair to poor people. Dr. Valintine said a concession could always be made to them. Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, in an interview with the Waikato Hospital Board this morning, refused to commit the Government to the creation of a new hospital district, embracing Rotorua, Taupo and Ba y of Plenty, but said the. evidence adduced showed that in the district suggested more adequate hospital accommodation was likely to be needed at torua.Th e discussion arose out of the Department’s demand that the Waikato Board pay more for patients treated in the Government Hospital at Rotorua. The Boaird is now paying half the fees. The Minister agreed that the present arrangement continue to the end of thg financial yeai.
