SOMETHING WRONG

VIEWS ON RECENT MOUNTAIN TSm

WAS THERE A LACK OF CO-ORDINATION?

Over the nom de phiniQ “Service and Smiles” the following appeared last week in the ‘Wellington “Evening Post”: As one who had the privilege of making the week-end trip to Stratford to view the scenic beauty of Mount Egmont, I do not think it necessary to offer any apology for sending you a few lines on the experiences of these who happened to make Stratford their home on this trip. About an hour before reaching Strut, ford representatives or jStra.tford’a Reception Committee boarded train and made known to. all what had been arranged so as to make tnecr stay, in rue town as pleasant as possible m the limited tune at our disposal.. Many Stratiord residents were at tbe station to greet the visitors, and deep indeed was tjio disappointment when only some 40 or 60 people stepped from the train instead of 400 or 600 as was expected, it appears to me that there should bo better co-ordination, and co-opera lion between the Railway Department on one hand and the Reception Committees cm the other, in order that the travelling public may be acquainted of what is going on in their interests at the other end. if aj thing is worth doing at all it is worth) doing ( well, and so I would suggest that only core town at a time should be included in these special trips ami loj* the Railway Department to get in

touch with tho llocoption Committee, and then for both to put out a joint circular giving the fullest detailed particulars hath from the .Railway point <jf view and also the town that desires to act tbo part of host to tho visitors.

1 Now, Mr 'Editor, as tho mouthpiece for the citizens of Wellington and tho means whereby Wq make ourselves known to the outside world, ringlet 1 ask that you tender fho sincere thanks of 'Wellington to tho citizens of Stratford for the way they worked for the pleasure and happiness of youf fellow-citizens, and tell them also that those of our number who were with them fully enjoyed and appreciated all that was done for their entertainment, M c bad a wonderful six hours viewing the hoautUui fTcenery on, .Mount Egmont and its beatitu fnl "hush, waterfalls, etc., ami tlio sight of tho plains of Taranaki is oi»e never to lie. forgtten. o nr deepest thkriks are also- duo to those whol acted as honorary guides, both ladies a,ml gen I lemon, and to tho gentlemen who organised the parties.
