THEIR VARIED TRADES. LONDON. There was an increase in the number of bankruptcies in 1927, according to the. annual report on bankruptcies.
Under the Bankruptcy and Deads of Arrangement Acts there were 6,170 failures, with total liabilities of £l2,_ 734,104, as against 6/002 in 1926, with total liabilities of £13,854,971. Farmers to the number of 463 failed with total liabilities of £1,131,817. The 1928 figures were 312 and £60(5,583., Women’ to the. number of 435 failed), with total liabilities of £449,766. ( The list of women failures is an indication of the many occupations and trades engaged in by women. Women who failed include one garage proprietor, three builders, 23 drapers, one cabinet maker; 17 grocers, two hairdressers, one chemist, two bakers, and one auctioneer and estate, agent.
