In the Garruridah district, near Coulburn, a hush fire is travelling speedily with a terrifying roar through a wide expanse of grass, burning crops, barns and fences. Hundreds are striving to hold the fire on a twelve miles' front. Enormous damage has been done, one owner losing six thousand pounds worth of fencing. Many sheep have been burnt to death, and at Bathurst one mob of several hundreds was overwhelmed by flames, while an attempt was being made to rescue them. Fires are also reported from the Lithgow, Cessnock, C'oolah, Katoomba and
