GREAT DAMAGE DONE AXEEADY. OVER! A HUNDRED TONS OF COAL ABLAZE. i (Received 10.4.5 a.m.) NEWCASTLE, This Day. A fierce fire is raging at Northumberland Colliery at Sassifiern. Damage estimated at £IO,OOO has been done already, and the position is becoming more serious hourly. The ventilating shaft and the fittings above ground have been destroyed, and over a hundred tons of coal are ablaze. It is feared the blazing wood is falling down the, shafts and will ignite the coal seams. —Australian Press Assil.
