MUCH DAMAGE DONE BY BUSH FIRES
HOUSES DESTROYED DESPITE RESIDENTS' EFFORTS. (Received 10.45 a.m.; SYDNEY, This Day. Witli Ibe recurrence of the hot weather hush fires ara racing from Gosford up to the North Coast. Much, damage has been done. Two houses were destroyed at Belmont, ami five a,t Tarooma, where] the residents fought all day to preserve their homes. The fires ar« responsible for terrific heat throughout the northern district, and at least one- death has resulted, -when Thomas Cook, aged nineteen, collapsed and jdied at Kearsley. The hush fires threaten to destroy the Gosford raeeoouso.—Australian Press Association.
