HOPE DWINDLES
RESCUE OF DISTRESSED VESSELS
STORMS INCREASE,
NEW YORK, January 28.
The hope of saving three distressed vessels bearing over 75 men dwindled further to-nighfc as thp storms increased in fury after they had battered shipping for over a
week. The Italian freighter Capovado, the Norwegian steamship Feralane, and the trawler Steiner have remained silent for several days. No other vessel reported finding them though manv are searching. The British freighter Silver: Fern has rigged a jury rudder and is proceeding slowly towards the coastguard cutter Tampa, which is hurrying * meet it. The Silver Fern will probably be safe, but it is feared the others have foundered unless one of the score of searching vessels soon reports discovery. __
