Ohura Road Metallling. The Public Works. Department has accepted the tender of; Mr A. J. Scott, Inglowood, for cartage in connection with the metalling of part ot Ohura Road, and a start will 0. made with the work on Monday next. Prosperous Taranaki. Members of the Hospital Board discussed the matter of subsidy wit* Er Valiutine this morning, the wish being expressed that the Stratford Board's subsidy might be increased The Chairman (Mr W. h. Kennedy) suggested that a fiat rate of subsidy throughout the country might be better, but Dr. Valiutine said the subsidy wa ß apportioned on a s.cientdc principle, with H view to gmng a laiL subsidy to Boards most in need Sit Boards on.the West Coast of 1 South Island had to have £tra help, but what he had seen.nlai.l- - suggested to him that it was a very prosperous district.
Minister of Health At this morning's conference with the members of the Stratford Hobpital Board 1 Dr. Valintine, Inspec-tor-General of apologised for the absence of the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, who 1 , he said, had been anxious to make the full tour and make the acquaintance of members of Hospital Boards. Mr Stallworthy had heen able to come only as far ag Wanganui when he had to return, to Wellington for the meeting of Cabinet. However, the Minister might be able to visit Taranaki in the course of a, week or two.
