Tons of Eels,, Great numbers of eels continue to be caught; by members of the Stratford Eel Club,, and a conservative estimate of the weight of those caught this season is twelve tons. Army Activities. Niue Salvation Army Life-Saving Guards left by the express this morning for the annual camp at Feilding. Altogether there will be about 200 guards at the camp, so an enjoTfftue time is expected. Boxing Day Celebration Two persons who over-indulged on Boxing Day and hacf to be accommodated at the police cells came before Mr tV. Crowds of Buyers. Christmas always brings out crowds of buyers, and one is inclined to marvel. at the numbers of people who throng the shops. One business man who is in a position to stats the actual number of sales made, estimates that during Monday no less than a thousand people visited his store. ' Rail way Traffic. As usual during the present holiday season the mail train was well filled this morning, a large number of passengers joining it at Stratford. The early train to New Plymouth was well filled, sixty passengers joining it at Stratford. The special train was not so well patronised, the Stratford passengers totalling only thirty. Bull Gores Horses. At Mr, M. farm on Nash Road on Sunday two valuable farm horses were gored by a Jersey bull, which Mr. McDonald had purchased on behalf of the Patea Freezing Company. The hoi’ses were attacked in turn and severe injuries were inflicted; and, despite prompt attention by a veterinary surgeon, on© is not expected to recover. On Saturday Mr. McDonald drove the bull to the paddock, but it showed no signs of temper then. Good Christmas Business. Several retailers who were interviewed by a “Post’)’ reporter this morning stated that, business over Christmas was very good, there being ample evidence that there was plenty of money about. The report of one firm that their business* on Christmas Eve exceeded that on last Christmas Eve tended to increase business, and last equalled that on last Christmas Eve, gives a fair indication of the general run of business. The Saturday coming so soon before Christmas Eve tended to increase business, ana one business man .said that if the buying dome on the two days 1 had been concentrated on the Monday his staff could never have dealt with it.
