MOUNTAIN MATTERS.
THE EASTERN HOUSE. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board was (hieldi last night, when there were present; Messrs J. O. Robins (chairman), W. L. Kennedy, J. S. Lyons, P. Thomson, T. R. Anderson, J. T. Belcher and Gl. A. Carter (secretary). ASSOCIATE MEMBERS. A letter was read from the Stratford branch] of the sSouth Taianaki Automobile Association stating that the Association was pleased to ad(opt th© suggestion of the committee that the Association should appoint two of its members to the committee, and that Messrs J. B. J'yon 3 ;and' 0. Moore had been appointed. In welcoming Mr Lyons, the chair man said he felt sure that much gor.rl would result from the presence at the , meetings of the committee of the associate members. It must be lemem bered, however, that Ihe constitution cf the committee was a legal cue, under the Egmont NUcional Park Board Act and only the persons appointee! to the committee by local bodies could) control the affairs of fie committee. It was desired that the associate! members should take a full share in the discussions and give assistance in that way. Then the associate members coutd take back to the bodies they represent an account of the aims and difficulties of the committee and thus enable those bodies [to keep in close touch with the committee. In returning thanks, Sir Lyons said he would be pleased to attend) the meetings and form a link between the committee (and the association. He felt sure the Association "would be willing to do whatever lay in it s power to help the committee. RAILWAY EXCURSION, '
The chairman said it had been decided that the railway excursion to the Mountain House should leaves Wallilngtojn on (Saturday, January 26th next. Th© Railway Department would take a note of the aecommodlation available at hotels and boardinghouses, with their tariffs. These ptacas would first bo filled and any other excursionists would have to be accommodated by private l people, but the railway people would not \dea,s with private people. The "Mayor (Mr J". W\. McMillan) wrote that he would be pleased! to call a public meeting in connection with the excursion, on any date the committee might wish. The chairman and Messrs Thomson; audi Kennedy were appointed a subcommittee; to* mieet the Autom,cb;il!o| Association and arrange for the transport of excursionists to the Mountain Hoiikse. METALLING THE Rt)AD. The chairman reported that arrangements for metalljlng the toad toi the House were well forwjird. It was expected that the grant of £3OO would enable 600 yards of metal to be put on the three-quarters of n mile of mad which it waa proposed to metal to a width of nine feet. '
