Mr .W, Do\v t caretaker ojf the Chamber of Commerce Buildings here, and his family had an unenviable experience wh,en the buildings were destroyed by fire, early this morning. Mr. was confined to his bed by an accident) but when he was awakened by the smoke and aroused his family, . they found their escape by means or the staircase; cut elf by the flames. They were eventually rescued from the top of the building by fire brigade ladders. One of the, children was burned about the shoulders, but her injuries are not serious. j There, was a. great deal of damage \ done to the. building, but it i» covered by insurance. |
