THE TARIKI TRAGEDY

INQUEST ON WILLIAMS A coronial inquiry into the death of Gilbert T. Williams, a residents of New Plymouth ,who was killed outright in the motor cyclo crash at Tariki on Thursday night, was held at Inglewood yesterday afternoon by Mr. AN. L. Kennedy, Coroner, On the. journey to Inglewood the Coroner and Sergeant Rowell inspected the scene of the accident. Evidence was given by Bernard Linn, brother-in-law of Williams, that deceased was 19 years old. AVitness last saw deceased alive at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, but did not know what his movements would be. Williams possessed a license to drive a motor cycle. The inquiry was then adjourned sine die. The first news of the accident was sent out by Mg’. H. S. D. McCollum, manager of the Tariki Dairy Co. who was going home from Inglewood wlien he meal'd, the crash... Examination of the Stratford cycle showed that a coif in the lighting system had burnt out, but this may have happened after the accident. Both machines were considerably damaged in the front wheels and headstocks. The tyre on AVilliams’ wheel was out through as dean as a whistle and the wheel was doubled back. The New Plymouth madhine was lying on the east side of the tarred surface and the Stratford machine on the west side, AVilliam’s body was lying some distance from his machine, but thgj two Stratford lads were lying under their machine. The funeral of Roberts and Johnson will leave the Catholic Church at 2. p.m. to-morrow for the Kopuatama Cemetery.
