Mr W. J. Poison M.P. and Mrs Poison left for Wangaimi this morning. They will return oil Monday. M. Jean Knight, French ambassador to Canada, was welcomed in Ottawa, ou Thursday. t The death at 82 years of Admiral Oscar St rack, who commanded the Russian Navy in the defence of Forth Arthur, is announced from Helsingfors. ’• ' ’ Cr. H. C. Taylor was this Running appointed to represent the Stratford and Whangamomonai County Councils on the New Plymouth Harbour Board, in place of the late Mr. Joseph McCluggage. Mr and Mrs Arthur Penn, of Auckland, Avho are at present visiting relatives in, vlMrnimiik, sire to leave shortly on a visit to Great Britain. A paragraph published yesterday wrongly stated their destination as Inglewood. l On the motion of Cr. Pitt the Stratford (County Council passed a resolution expressing regret at the departure from Stratford of Mr T. M. Ball, resident engineer of tha Public Works Department, expressing apprecfition of his work in the district and congratulating him on ln» promotion. In seconding the motion Cr. Jacobson said that personally he very much regretted Mr Baill’s departure, as lie was such a good man for the hack country
