ALL WATERSSDERS. NEW ACT TO OPERATE. , SOME PORTS EXCLUDED. NO WORK WITHOUT A LICENSE. (Received 9.60 a.m.) CANBERRA, Tills Day. Mr Bruce explaining the regulations under the new Transport Workers Act so id these would be administered by the Marine Department of Trade and, Customs which would issue licenses to all persons desiring employment at ports, where volunteer labour bad been engaged, and no person without a license' would in future obtain, employment as a wateiside worker. STEPS TAKEN. Steps had '.already been taken to apply the regulations to the ports of Melbourne, Adelaide, /Brisbane, and. Fremantle where the Beehy award was flouted, hut not at Sydney, Newcastle or Albany where the waterside federation men are observing the saward. A conviction of any licensed person for assault on a fellow worker would result in the cancellation of bis license while without the license he would be unable, to obtain work ori the waterfront. —Australian Press Assn.
