ON IMPORTED FRUITS _i . COOK ISLANDS AGITATION) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The competition of Australian oranges with Cook Islands fruit on the Now Zealand' market was discussed by the price-fixing committee, traders and growers at a series of meetings at Awarua, Rarotonga, at the end of June.

It was decided to ask the! New Zealand 1 Government for duties on all oranges grown outside the Dominion during the months of March to September inclusive, say, one penny pefl pound, on all bananas grown outside the Dominion, sufficient to equalise the Cook Islands’ increased costs of production and marketing, to prevent over supply and dumping, and to afford Cook Islands a measure of protection, .say, a halfpenny per pound, and on all tomatoes grown outside the Doiuinion, say, twopence per pound.^ It would also bo requested that no restriction should tie placed cm Cook Islands' toifiatoes during the. months of June to December inclusive.
