KING’S THEATRE. “SIMPLE STS.” Louise Fazenda, co-starred with Clyde "Cook in “Simple Sis,” the Warner Master Picture comedy at the King’s Theatre, is considered one of the cleverest of screen comediennes. Born in Lafayette, Tnd., she received her education at St. Miry’s Convclit and the Los Angeles High Schools before she embarked upon a. short career in stock. Originally associated with pig-tails and gingham slapstick comedies, Miss Fazenda, rapidly progressed to even greater popularity in more subtle roles. Among her outstanding pictures (are “The •Gold D'.ggers,” “Main StreeTT’ “Cheaper to'Marry,” “Bobbefi .Hair,” “Compromise,” “Hogan’s Alley,” “The Bat,” “Footloose 'Widows,” “Millionaires,” “Finger Prints” and “The Cradle Snatchers.’’ THE GREAT M. JEAN LE POL By courtesy of Fox Films, M. Joan Le Roi will make a personal appearance at the King’s Theatre to-morrow evening. Known the world over as a celebrated stage and screen star, Mr Le Roi will entertain patrons of the King’s with tit-hits from vaudeville. During the Great War, Jean, by which name is better known by, attained the rank of Major, and also was awarded the D.S.O. for bill very on the field. Patrons of the King’s tomorrow night can be assured of first, class entertainment from this star.. “LA MOSCOTTE.” ELTHAM AT STRATFORD. Because of its inherent good qualities, the tuneful opera comique, “La Mascotte,” to be produced by the Eliham Operatiq Society at the Stratford Town Hall on Wednesday next, should be seen by all lovers of quaint original music and clever libretto. “La Mascotte” is a remarkably effective opera, superbly directed and produced, aud -interpreted by a practically all-star caste of amateur placers. The featured ‘ pla> ers are Mrs Len Nodder as Bettina, Miss Alison Wilson a s Fiametta, Miss Sybil Carncross as Luigi, Miss Mavis Burrows as Angelo, Mr Sam Carson as Prince Laurent, Freddy Silver as Rocio, Hugh Larabie as Frittalini, Ernest Carter a s Pippo. The work of these principals is unusually artistic, while the support rendered by the society’s renowned chorus, leaves little to be desired by I r * amusement lovers.
A s usual with this, the young Taranaki amateur operatic society, a comprehensive tour of the principal towns will be undertaken. “La Mascotte” will be produced in Eltharn on Wednesday and Friday of next week, at the Opera House, New Plymouth, on Thursday next, at the Opera House, Hawera, on July 30, and at the Town Hall, Stratford, on August 1. A Cardston-Baxter production ,“La Mascotte,” with an augmented orchestra and the society's chorus of 60 voicse under the baton of Mr A. Beesley, will establish a bigger reputation than) ever for Eltham. The box plan will he on view in Eltham at Carman’s, New 'Plymouth at Collier’s, Hawera at the Opera House confectionery, and Stratford at Kear’s music store.
