A case of unusual interest ' from Pongaroa wa s heard at the Pahiatua Court yesterday, before Air Free, S.AI.j when Michael Francis Dillon was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a cUr, and with] assaulting and resisting the police. In connection with the game incident, Henry Dillon was charged with assaulting and obstructing the police, William A. Reid l with encouraging a. personi to obstruct the police, and Frederick Wright with obstructing the police on the night of June 9, Constable John Mclntosh stopped the car in the Pongaroa township. It w*as driven bv Michael Dillon, and the constable endeavoured to arrest him on a charge of being drunk while driving a car-
Defendant resisted, and Henry Dillon as well as) Wright came, and Michael Dillon eventually got away.
Nineteen witnesses were called for the defence, and siaid Michael Dillon was sober. The other defendants interfered only because the Constable had Dillon by the throat in ai drain and was choking him.
Decision! was reserved. The court was packed with onlookers, most of whom came over forty miles from Pongaroa to hear the proceedings.
