NOTES BY “PAPER-MONEY.’'

The "Winter meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Cl*® o 'is set down for Friday and Saturday next. * * # Argue was expected to run prominently against tue moderate lot that) opposed him at Napier last .Saturday, seeing that event was run over a five furlong course, but he never once flattered his big army of supporters, and evidently is a very moderate sort. ** * * Royal Lineage, who has keen off the scene for about eight months, finished a close fourth at Napier Park last Saturday. This performance is worth remembering, in view of future races. Royal Lineage is distinctly promising. ■> * * *• Sagittarius, who was held on lease by A. McAulay, has been returned to his owner and it is understood he will do his future racing in the North Island. * » * Te Monanui looks bright and well, and may be given a run at the To Kuiti meeting to be held at Ellerslie. * » * Rapier has made his reappearance on the tracks at Riccarton after enjoying a spell for . about two months, and he will soon he starting on a preparation for spring engagements, * # # Limerick broke away from his attendant a few days ago and cut one of his legs, but the injury is not regarded seriously. * « * J.B. Pearson is devoting a. lot of attention to Sol !erite at present. Ho had to he spelled after racing at South Canterbury, in the autumn, but he is striding along now in strong pace work. He seems to be quite sound, and if ne goes on all right he may be given another chance to earn distinction in the Winter Oup, a race that Hie won last August. * * * F. Christmas has Martama striding along in strong pace work. He looks well and i s getting through his preliminary tasks m a very satisfactory manner at Riekaiton. * * * The Riccarton trainer, H. Nurse expects to have a useful team to represent his stable at Trentham next month. It will include Oriflamb for minor steeplechases, Chickwheat for hack hurdle races, and Lancer and Greyfinch for flat events. HAWKE’S BAY HUNT CLUB. Press Association —Copyright HASTINGS, Last Night.
