United Pre.s s Assn.—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. LONDON, June, 29.
Authentic news from Captaid Amundsen is anxiously awaited. He left Tromso at 4 o’clock on Monday afternoon and was due at - King’s Bay at 1 o’clock on Tuesday morning- The whole population waited in vain and it is now believed he must have attempted to reach General Nobile’s party direct. The distance, from Tromso) to Fbyn Island, where the Italia’s crew is marooned, is about 700 miles. The giant seaplane piloted by Capt. Guilbaud, in which Captain Amundsen, is travelling and in which there is the spare pilot Dietrichson, carries fuel for 2000 miles. It is therefore regarded as probable that he reached General Nobile and alighted between the ice floes to render assistance, (United Service). , ROME 1 , June 20. After abortive flights Larson, Holm and Maddelena, commander of the Citta di Milano, have determined to study special means of locating Nobile, states an official message. The reports of the airmen showed extreme difficulty in picking out men among the mounds- of ice and broken channels, on which the sun shines, making falsified shadows, giving the illusion of great visibility. Chemicals which will emit a thick smoko are being prepared. The aeroplanes will drop the chemicals where Nobile is thought to be in order , that he may use them to) guide the rescuers.
