PRIMARY SCHOOL WORK

THE NEW SYLLABUS. To make arrangements for thoroughly considering tiie new primary school syllabus in order that recommendations, for alterations or additions may be made to the revising committee prior to June 13, a meeting of the South Tararlxld branch of be New Zealand Educational Institute was' held at Hawera on Saturday, Mr J. Nairn presiding over a large attendance. The following co-opteeg were (appointed to work with the revising committee: Head teachers, Mr F. A. Bates (Hawera); assistant masters, Mr. D. Taylor (Stratford); infant mistresses, Miss Terry (Hawera) ; assistant mistresses, Miss Kelly (Elthum j sole charge schools, Mr, Sinclair (Mangamingi). A motion by Air. T. Taylor (secretary) that the hedmasters of the Manaia, Hawera, Stratford and Eltham schools be chairmen of the meetings to deul with the syllabus was carried. It was decided that the sections be discussed as follows; Mlanaia, Opunako, arithmetic section; Elthain, English section; Stratford, history, geography and nature study; Hawera, drawing, handwork, music, hygiene and moral instruction.

It wais decided to hold a meeting of infant teachers to discuss the infant syllabus. It was resolved to hold a general meeting at Eltham on June 9, when the reports of the committees on the various sections will be presented. Mr. Bates recommended all teachers unable to attend the meetings to forward their views to the chairman of a meeting.
