POINTS OF INTEREST. LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. In reference to ai complaint by Mr Laverty regarding wiiter rate ' payments. it was decided to request Mr Laverty to appoint an arbitrator to mecit an arbitrator appointed by the Council. * * * C r "Ware! and the Town Clerk were appointed to represent the Council ah the annual meeting of the Local Bodies’ Association. * * * In reference to an invitation to send 1 a delegate to the annual conference of electric power supply authorities, it wag decided to ask Mr Lancaster tq represent the Council, and to ask him to bring forward a remit, to the effect that the annual conference of the body in question should be held at the dime time, and place as the ' Municipal Conference. * * * Mr H. Jakes, who made a, claim against the Council for loss of business arising from the closing of Broadway during the Jubilee celebra^. tioms, is to be informed that the Council cannot admit any liability. 1 his decision follows an opinion on the matter received from the Borough Solicitor. * «• * It wfas decided 1 not to proceed with the decision to order the demolition of the stables in Regan Street, but to grant a, permit contingent on certain improvements being made. * * * The secretary of the East Committee of the. Egmmit National Park Board (Air G. A. Carter) wrote asking thq Council t o pjiksjii resolution supporting the Park Board’s application for reinstatement of the Government vote for metalling the road to the Mountain House, and requesting the appointment of a . delegate to 1 act on the deputation which is to wait on Ministers visiting . Stratford on the matter..—The requested reso-i lution was passed and the Mayor was appointed to represent the Council,
* * * The secretary of the Hospital Board (Mr. T. H. Penn) notified that the following levies would be made on the Council: Maintenance £547 17s, capital £49 7s 4d. * * *..A -I , ' ■ It was decided to request) the Railway Department to link up its asphalting with the newly-made footpath in Fenton Street. * * * ■ «- - : ■ Oh Cr. Kelly’s suggestion it was decided to paint lines for the parking of cars in Fenton and Began Streets from! Juliet Street to anda Street. In tjhese pieces of street, said Cr. Kelly, ears could be seen parked at all conceivable angles and he saw one motorist who had great difficulty in- getting’ his car out. Cr. Fletcher thought a notice might save the cost of ’continually painting the lines, but other Councillors agreed that a notice would not be effective. * * * Cr. Ward sai l the visit of the merry-go-round during the ■- Jubilee celebrations had had the effect of drawing attention to the fact that the council Had no power to levy a license fee on a merry-go-round. It was; decided to SSnstruotT the Town Clerk to ascertain what charges were made in other towns and to- take steps to fix a charge for Stratford Borough.
