FATHER CAHILL’S DEPARTURE.
The departure of Father Cahill is regretted by a large circle of friends, not only members of his own congregation, but also members of other faiths. The farewell function tendered to him last evening showed clearly the esteem in which be is held, and it must be pleasing for him to know that he carries with him the good wishes of those amongst whom he has laboured for the past two years. Apart altogether from the duties of bi s office which he has carried out splendidly. Father Cahill has shown himself to be a public spirited citizen, ' ever "ready to take his part 4^
any movement in winch his services would be of value.
H e knows Taranaki well, having been stationed in different parts at various times, and in former years while carrying out his duties, he had to contend with many hardships, which w T cre the lot of settlers in those days. As was remarked last night, he is one of those who blazed the trail for the church in Australia and New ..Zealand in the early days, and rendered much self sacrificing service. Hi s administrative ability is unquestioned. Everywhere he has been he has done splendid work, and in Stratford as elsewhere the improvements he effected stand witness to hi s enterprise. He has relinquished this parish on account of ill health, and sinceie wishes will bo extended for his speedy recovery.
