MAULED BY SHARK

' When the alarm was ■ raised at Merewether (Australia) beach a few days ago. that a couple of sharks were in the vicinity, the surf boat, launched and an effort was made to catch the monsters with nook and. }ine.. , One of the men who rowed the boat was "Ted" Pritchard, victim of .the shark attack at Merewether in: March last A few., days ago a man was in ■trouble in Newcastle baths, and in an effort to save him another man grabbed him by the legs, with the I result that the man wa s being kept , under instead of being helped. Pritchard was in the baths at the time, and grabbed th e drowning man. by the hair. He held him until assistance arrived.
The other day he won a guinea, prize, in a race at the baths. His. parents knew nothing about him competing, and his father learned of the incident when he was returning from a union meeting. When he reached home he upbraided "Ted" for risking injury to his wounds. That day wa, B the first day that Pritchard had bee n able to work since the shark attack. He has 'taken a position at a local garage to learn thoroughly how to run a car, •preparatory to taking on a taxi.
