BOROUGH IMPROVEMENTS
RELIEF WORK GANG. The Borough Foreman (Mr L. B. Davis) reported as follows tq the Borough Council at last night’s meeting: Relief works. —Tiiis work has been progressing under somewhat unfavourable conditions. Juliet Street. —Owing to the unsettled weather work in Juliet Street has had to be abandoned for the present. Brecon Road. —The filling in Brecon Road has been put in. This filling will require to settle before the road can be laid on same. Portia Street, —. —A good deal of work has been done on this street, where moist of the rough work has been completed. Four large fillings have had a considerable amount of soil dumped in them, Hamlet Street. —The tunnel across the road has been completed and good progress has been made with the second tunnel niftier section 503. The water is now going through the tunnel and a start has been, made to fill in the creek. Parks.—The formation work in King Edward Park is now complete and thei men are now digging over the ground and spreading top soil. The paths are being gravelled. All the formation work on the path around the lake in Victoria Park is now completed and a number of trees have been planted. The path will be gravelled as soon as possible. The Mayor said he had made an inspection of 'the works in hand, and he was agreeably surprised at what tlie unemployed gang had done. The Foreman was to be congratulated on the progress made, and the ratepayers should ho quite satisfied with the work done.
