A SUCCESSFUL YEAR
COUNTY COUNCIL WORK. At the annual meeting of the Stratford County Council tthis morning Cr. T. 11. Anderson was reelected chairman, on the motion of Cr. Were, seconded by Cr. BelcherIn returning thanks Cr. Anderson sa.id that i during the last year he had done what he considered to be right, irrespective of conseqenees, and he supposed the greatest compliment the Council could pay him was to rc-elee 4 . him. The year had been a< busy one for County work. The system, of accountancy bad been brought up and the clerk would now l.e able to supply data required much earlier than was the case in the p<st. His thanks were due to Crs Pitt and O'Neill for their help on the committee which had pone into the matter of 'the aocoulnlting system. He believed the office and engineering staffs were working well, and 'the constructional .staff waw of 'a high standard. Whenever the outside staff were called upon they trove the Very best service and he believed the time was coming when the'eiost of maintenance would be creatlv reduced. There had been a. trrea't increase of motor traffic, amd without tarring be could not see how the roads could have been maintained at all.
, Cr. Pitt congratulated Cr. Anderson on li's re-election. Or. Anderson had the interests of the Countv at heart and was to be., commended for the alterations in methods he had brought about. Tn the past the tendency had been for the County to drift into obsolete methods, but with the ninny new sources of revenue it was absolutely, necessary thajfc the accounting system be'revised- He could endorse Or. Anderson's remarks regarding t,he staff who alwavs rendered loval service. T* wenre loyal service there must be resnect by the working staff for the superior officers and he believed that was the case Vn. Stratford County. He hoped the good relations between the chairman and other members would continue, as in the past. \ , . Or. Belcher also added his congratulations. „ . , , j The Engineer {Mr. Spence) stated that in the past year nearly 19.00 U yards of metal had been crushed, compared with a previous average of about 3 0,000 yards per annum.
