Charges of disobeying a lawful .command given by a superior officer, using insubordinate language, and performing an act to the prejudice of good order and military discipline were preferred against Staff Sergeant Major C. S. Mahoney at a sitting of a Court Martial to-day. The charges arose from an incident which is alleged to have taken place at the annual camp of the second mounted rifles on the Waverley racecourse last month. Accused refused to go to a tent when ordered to do so by Captain B. W. Harvey. He refused to take orders from a Territorial officer, and 'performed an insulting act with his hand. Counsel for accused raised an objection to the charges on the ground that a Territorial officer had no jurisdiction over a member of the permanent staff.
