BEAM SHORTCOMINGS

FURTHER TESTS. • (Received 1.5 p.m.) LONDON. January 24. Until Marconi's issue a statement to-morrow, the full extent of the shortcomings of the Beam wireless tests will not be revealed. Incmiries disclosed that the post office examination tabulated daily results, showed deficiencies below the contract stipulation of a hundred words per minute over a seven hour day. The post office informed Marconi that it could not take over control of the station, and further tests were necessary. When these will be carried out is at present undecided. It is revealed that results were disappointing even when alternate east and west routes round the globe were used, also that London got Melbourne better than Melbourne got London.
