LONDON, January 2.
Innsbruck reports that the worst avalanche disaster for many years occurred at Zures, where ten members of' a ski-ing party (eight Englishmen and two Germans) were buried. The bodies of five of the Englishmen were recovered. The noise of the avalanche sweeping towards the valley was heard for miles around. Later messages from Innsbruck state that Allberg, where the avalanche disaster occurred, is a famous skiing region but difficult, it being suitable only for experts <- It is especially dangerous now, owing to a, thaw following extreme cold. This caused an enormous snow-field, half a mile wide, to break from the mountain side, engulfing the two skiing parties from Zures. Of these, two were men, one of whom was killed.
- -Some of the'bodies were buried Tinder a snow drift as high as a; twostorey house. Rescue parties worked in relays, the whole night bv the light of flares, digging frantically in the hope that someone might be alive. The faces of the victims recovered so far, were calm and passive, indicating that death was instantaneous. SIX LONDONERS. (Received 9.15 a.m.) VIENNA, January 3. Six of the victims at Zures were Londoners.
