MEN'S OPEN. I'er Yxea-a Association. WELLINGTON, October 15. The first round of the open golf championship is being played. Cards at 1 p.m. were: W. R. Dobson and E. J. Moss 76, H. Morrison 77, H. J. Shanks 78, K. Tareha, 11. R. Blair, H. A. Black, J. L. Peetey, each 79, J. A. Clements, F. R. Galloway, G. B. Forrest, P. Grey, R. S. Jones, B. V. Wright, each SO, R. Wagg SI, F. Branch and J. M. TTussey 82, R. 0. Gardner 83, L. 1). Hurst, H. W. MacFarlane, J. McCormick, each 84, D. Whyte 85, A. E. Cuasse and J. Lambie S 6, N. H. Bull. H. R. Balneavis, N. S. Collie, H. P. Dale, J. W. Ross, each 87, G. M. Dodgshun and E. H. Liddlc SS, H. E. Aplin 89, C. A. Seymour 91. H. W. MacFarlane spoiled a good round by taking two sevens at the 15th and 17th. Kapi Tareha played a faultless round with the exception of a seven at the first bogey. H. G'. B. Forrest was weak in putting going out. C. A. Seymour could not get going. J, T. Tucker equalled bogey with a 6 at the 12th, bogey 3. B. V. Wright dropped 3 strokes by indifferent putting. G. M. Dodgshern found too many bunkers for a score. E. J. Moss took 3 puts at the Ist and two fours at the 12th and 14th. He took bogey 3. H. R. Blair played excellent golf, going out in 30, but he slipped puts on five holes coming in. W. R. Dobson's 76 might have been 2 stokes better but for taking sixes at the 15th and 17th. L. J. Petley spoiled a good round by taking a 7 at the 18th. The weather is beautifully fine and the course is in excellent condi^^ LADIES' MEETING. ■ Per yress Association. ■ DUNEDIN, October L 1 The first round of the ladies' 1 chan.pionship of New Zealand wWi played at Balmacewen links thi/J morning in fine weather. The course 1 is drying quickly and improving and the greens should be tit their best by by Monaay or Tuesday. Results: Miss Cay (St. Clair) beat Mrs Preston (Avondale), six up, four to play; Mrs Humphrey (Ckristchurch) beat Mrs C. Jones (Invercargill), one up; Mrs S. G. Err (Tiraaru) beat Mrs R. Orbell (North Otago), five up and three to play.
