REMODELLING ViLLAG":3. 'I'III-: DPKP OP YORK'S VISIT. A deputation from I lie Arawa Trust Board, with Mr Raurcti Mokonui Arani as spokesman, and Mr T. Tai Mitchell as interpreter, waited on the Minister of Public Works, on Monday, in connection with the remodelling of the villages of Ohincmutu and YVhakarewerewa and the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York, says the Rotorua correspondent of the Auckland "Star." The former felicitated the Minister on his appointment to the Ministry, also as Acting-Native Minister, and referred to his presence ai the unveiling of the memorial to Sir Wm, Herries, a Native Minister, who had held the scales of justice with regard to the native race without fear or favour. The speaker then stressed the immediate necessity for starting the remodelling proposals, and the arrangements for the Duke's visit. | The Minister thanked the deputation for their congratulation; and said the Under-Secretary would let them know the Government's intentions as to the village improvements. The reception to the Duke would not be on the same magnitude as thai to the Prince of Wales. He was conferring with the Hon. A. T. Ngata in reference to the same, and would let the Arawas know directly the programme was ready. ! The Minister also refererd to the school for carving, which is to be established under the recent legislation. He advised the deputation to consult the Hon. R. P. Bollard, who is arriving on Tuesday night. Mr McKenzie, Under-Secretary to the Native Department, said he was immediately putting the contour survey in hand and taking levels of the, proposed roading. and Messrs Hammond and Mair were doing the designing.
