EXPENSIVE MUTTON.

POST SPLITTERS IN TROUBLE. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, October 5. At the Court, before Mr Levien, S.M., L. A. Longmore and W. R. Wilson were each fined £2 for sheep stealing and 'H. Mclnnes a similar amount for eating portion of the sheep, knowing it to be stolen. The evidence showed that the men ran out of meat when engaged on a post-splitting contract at Puhipuhi. A sheep was disabled by a rifle shot, killed, dressed and taken to the camp. Mclnnes did not take part in the shooting but ate a chop for breakfast next morning.
