MONTHLY MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Stratford Comity Council met this morning, when."Mr T. R. Anderson,, the County Chairman, » f presided. Also in attendance were: Crs S., Pitt, W. Vi'ckers,' T. T. Murray, W. H. Were, J. T. Belcher, J. Jacobsen, J. O'Neill, S. Parker, Messrs J. W. Spence (engineer) and C. Perm (clerk). WAITUI ROAD. The District Engineer" .of Public Works, Mx T. Mi Ball, advised that it was intended to issue an Order-in-Council vesting portion of the Waitui Iload in the -local authority. The writer understood 'that it was the intention of the Eltham and Stratford Counties to each pay half the cost of maintenance of this road, and information was sought as.to whether anv agreement had been arrived at in tho matter, If such an agreement were, iii-existence such'portion of the road would be declared a county road in the Stratford County. Walter, M.P.7 wrote thanking the Council for the resolution of appreciation of his services passed at the last meeting.

EMERGENCY COMMITTEE. Mr. P, Skoglund, Town Clerk, Stratford,, requested that the Council appoint two members to act in conjunction with two members of the Borough Council and members of the Hospital' Board as an emergency committee in sie event of an influenza epidemic. Crs Pitt and Vickers were appointed. ■.. : c. : :.", A CRUSHING PLANT. Mr H. Jessop, of Ngaere, asked permission to erect a crushing plant at the Cornwall Road. Left' in, the hands of the Engineer .and South Riding members. FLINT ROAD BANK. o The Secretary of the Stafford A. and P. Association wrote- asking that the Council, in conjunction with, the Railway Department, would undertake the rethoval of banks on the: north side of the Flint Road railway crossing/ ; 'The matter was left in the. hands: of the Riding members with_ power to act. SOUTH RIDING, . Cr O'Neill- drew attention to the dangerous bends on the Wingrove. Road, stating that because of these people were often afraid to permit their children to go on the road. Several 'accidents had occurred in the past, and he thought it time that some action should be taken. Cr Parker drew attention to the Hill Road, stating .that ever since it had-been a road little or no attention had been paid to it. ~ The Engineer-was instructed to inspect, this road, and bring down an Je/stanat« of /eosfcuoli re-grading* THE PARK BOARD. ' North Riding (East.)— During the past mout-li metal patching, watertabiing and fern-outtiug have been done on the Stanley, Cross. Ackland. and, Croydon roads. One-hundred-and forty-four : yard's of shetlrcek have heen crushed and distributed on the Stan? ley Road for; maintenance, a further 198 yards, being. used in re-facing a, portion of the same, road. " The chip crusher has been placed at the junction of the Aekland and Croydon roads, where it is being used in crushing boulders for maintenance for these, roads. . North Riding (West)—Metal patching has been carried out on the Pembroke, Monmlouth and Cardiff roads. The grader has been run over! the grass: fsides on lh© "Denbigh, York and. Rutland road<*. The watertobles on the Mountain, Road have been attended, to. . ■ • ■ . South Riding.—General. surface work has been done on the Mountain Road, metal patching od| the. Skinner. Sole and Wingrove Roads: and the wp tertables on the 'OKinie Road have been cleaned out. The . grader has been run over the Bird, Robson and Wfijihapa, roads. One of the bends on the Bird Road Hill has bean widened out and. will be metalled when the opportunity offers. East Riding ('Huirnai.—General repatKr work has teen done on the Makuri, Douglas North and Mohakau reads,.the work consisting of clearing of slips, water tabling and' crowmr,g-u,p) The. drag, log has been run over" the latter road. '_■ ' . r. t. West Riding.—The metalling oi tne portion of the Opunake Doad between the Waingongoro Stream and the deviation at Shannon's Hill has b°.en completed. Three hundred and •fifty-nine yards of shingle have been put" through the crusher, 202 yards o| metal being distributed on the road to metal the side, tracks. The balance' 157 yards, consisting of screened shingle and sand has been dumped on the roadside • for next season's tar work. The crushing plant has been moved to the Fhmerty Road, where 100 yards of metal have been crushed and "carted on to the Hastings Road. The balance of the metal i s being used in re-facing the Finnerty Road from the Lowgarth end. The recent wet weather necessarily delayed all re-facing work. The . contractor on the Opunake. Road deviation was making satisfactory progress till delayed by rain. A start has again been made. Some inconvenience has been caused to users of the road, but every endeavour has been made to minimise the trouble. Mangaehu Riding.—The recent rains have necessitated constant attention to watertables and culverts. A considerable amount of metal pateh'ing has been necessary to carry tin© 'traffic on the Mangaotuku, Mangaehu and Puniwhakau Roads. The filling which went out on the Manga Road has now been put in. Most of the slips have been cleared away. A few days should complete the work.
