MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. f ■ The monthly meeting of the Whangamomona' County Council was held yesterday. Those present were.- Crs N. 11. Cleland (chairman), G. Gower, J. MoCluggage, O. J, O’Neill, E. C. gladden, was in attendance, ' CORRESPONDENCE. ; The Main Highway Board, Wellington, wrote to the Council drawing their attention to subsection (a) of section 11. (T) of the Main Highways Act, . 1922.TJ16 section referred to requires District Highways Councils to submit recommendations as to public highways within each district, not being main highways under the Act, ■ which should be declared main highways. It was requested-that the Council let the Boar cl have any recommendations it has to, make as soon, . as possible. ' The Stratford Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Council stating that at a recent meeting of- the Chamber it was resolved that a letter be forwarded to the Hon. J. 0. Coates re the Stratford, Main Trim*. Railway,, the speedy completion of which .was considered, of primary importance to Taranaki. The Council unanimously agreed to support this by' resolution, as requested. The New Zealand Counties Association wrote bringing to the Council’s notice the; bad : habit- that motorist!.;have of leaving empty, benzine tins on the road. A serious case had recently. been brought to their notice, a native child losing.'its life throughlighting a fire under a partly empty benzine tin found on. the roadway, thus causing an explosion. The Association was of the . opinion - - tliat- j steps should be taken to make it au offence to leave empty, benr-iiie tins j an the road. It was asked that thematter be brought before the Couficil for consideration, and every endeavour made to. stop this nuisance. The Council decided to approve oi iny steps taken by. Die Association in ;his direction. Accounts amounting to £2320 4s 43 were .passed: for payment.
