A violent cyclone at Trangie late tins afternoon demolished a number of buildings, causing extensive damage.

Two women wore buried beneath the ruins of their homes and were critically injured. Over fifty people are homeless.

Torrential rain followed the tornado which struck Trangie, ruining the furniture and other effects in unroofed buildings.

The tornado could be seen approaching half an hour before it struck the town.

After levelling a number of buildings the path of the storm veered and missed the main business portion. The Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church and the .Masonic Hall were among the places razed to the ground.
