NEW SEASON'S BUTTER. GOOD TIME FOR FARMERS. ADVANCE IN LONDON VALUES. Auckland, September 9. For the first time this year butter is this week quoted ou the London market at more than 200 s per cwt. Advices* received yesterday record that butter was quoted in London at 200 sto 202 s per cwt. This is equal to about Is 7 l-4d to Is 7Jd per lb f.o.b. The average price realised for New Zealand butter Hast season was 'approximately' Is 6d per lb. In the circumstances the announcement that a" prominent'Hawke's Bay factory has disposed of its new season's output at Is 7d per lb is an indication 1 that improved prices may be expected this season. It is interesting to note that a downward trend of prices on the London market usually occurs in March or April when the supply from the northern, hemisphere conies to hand. Last season after reaching the peak price of about 220 s per cwt., the market showed a downward tendency, immediately after Christmas, and for a few months ranged between 150 s and 170 s per cwt.,. At the lower price many New Zealand factories withheld their butter from the market and profited by the improved conditions subsequently. The recent improvement in the London ma'rket presages a good time for the early season's output of New Zealand butter, although it is still rather early to predict, with confidence, what may occur in the world markets.
