POLITICAL AMBITIONS.

POSITION OP SCHOOL TEACHERS EDUCATION BOARD’S DECISION. Per Press Association. Wellington, July 15. “Shall school teachers be permitted to stand for Parliament?” was a question put before the Wellington Education Board to-day in reference to an inquiry on the subject which was mad© to the Department. The reply was that it was a matter for the Board, not the Department. A motion that application by teachers for leave of absence to contest Parliamentary elections be refused was lost by six votes to three. One member said that if a teacher wanted to enter public life he should certainly resign. Others held that, it was highly undesirable to interfere with the ambition of school teachers. It was pointed out that railway servants were allowed to stand for Parliament. .
