WHO’S WHO

(To the Editor, Stratford Evening Post.) Sir ,—ln your issue of ___ yesterday there appears a statement by a Mr A. Lilley, to the effect that there will definitely be a Labor candidate for the Stratford seat at the forthcoming election. Mr Lilley is described as “the Secretary of the Parliamentary Representation Committee,” whatever that may be. It certainly sounds soinov, hat imposing. Rut the point upon which I would like enlightenment is this • Who is this Mr A. Lilley? Is he the same gentleman who, with a flourish of trumpets announced tome time ago that a well, known and highly-respected resident of the district (Mr Sutton) was the i hosen Labour candidate for the S' rixford scat, and regarding which statement, Mr Sutton subsequently published through your journal, a somewhat, caustic denial, in which he pointed out that he was not and never hid been a candidate. On this occasion Mr Lilley (if he is the same Mr Lilley), does not mention the name of the proposed candidate. In that perhaps he is wise, because apparantly his nominee,s in common witn most men have a nasty habit of denying statements in winch their names appear without their consent. Again, Dir Editor, is this person, the same Mr Li lie v whom it is rumoured is

seeking the confidence of the townspeople for election to the Borough (’ouncil? If so. 1 think it is a pity, because it is hardly likely that people will get behind a person who would make a public statement like thf. one made regarding Mr Hutton.

and one which had so little Founcla--1 i ii that it had to he denied. Of (,(iirse there may be two Mr Lilleys, oiul. if so. the statement of yesterday will naturally lie entitled to some credence, hnt if there is only one. parhnns I may he forgiven for being .somewhat sceptical regarding its seriousness. One naturally wonders whet tier it may be merely a figment of |be imagination. Yours, etc. JSMQUIIU4U. ’
