SYDNEY, Oct. 27
Mr. Mills, president of the Waterside Workers’ Union, speaking in the Domain, said the shipping companies wore perfecting a strike-breaking machine which might be used against any industry. He said the public would not tolerate the shipping companies continuing to flout tr w e federal Arbitration Court award by employing through the bureau non-unionists at a lower ; fate and for longer hours than those secured by the union. Men were working 46$ hours, instead of 44 weekly, and were paid £4 11s, which was £2 13s lower than the 3s hourly secured by tl^i,Federation.
Mr. Ellis, a Queensland delegate, said: “In.a very little time we shall have the industry tied up. It will,not be like the 1917 strike. We shall do the job properly this time.’’
