ANNUAL CYCLE ROAD RACE.

SATURDAY’S EXCITEMENT.

The sixth annual circular road race round Mount Egmont, took place on Saturday under fine weather conditions. Very keen interest was manifested, and at each town through which the course lay large numbers of spectators thronged the streets. In Stratford a very large crowd collected, and Broadway was very animated from ■ Fenton Street to Regan Street. The arrangements in Stratford could have been much better, and it was unfortunate that some of the crowd should have . invaded the course and thus caused a great deal of inconvenience to the competitors. One competitor, W. T. Blackman, of Hokitika, collided with some members of the crowd, and as a result had to retire. The winner was R. Johnson, of Wes town, who started off the, 28 minute mark and completed the journey in ohrs 9mins SOsees. Bint, of New Plymouth,' did the journey in, 'Shrs 3min Bsec. this' being 3mins 22 secs faster than'" the fastest time of last year. Following is a complete list of the prize-winners— '

First.—The Britannia Tyre Challenge Cup, valued at . 50 guineas (annual competition); also £SO in cash donated by tire Cycle and Motor Supplies. Ltd (Britannia Tyres), and a gold medal; R. Johnson (New Plymouth).

Second. —£15 cash and bicycle valued at £ls 15s; K. Finnia (New Plymouth).

Third. —£7 7s cash and bicycle valued at £ls 15s; K. Orutchley (Wanganui).

Fourth.—£s cash and bicycle valued at £ls 15s: H. E. M. Best (Hokitika).

Fifth.—£7 7s cash ; J. Cleland (Ashburton).

Sixth.—£s 5s cash: 0. Bint (New Plymouth). Seventh.—£2 2s cash _ and set of tyres valued at £2 10a: C. Bright (Chirstchurch). Eighth.—£2 2s.cash and set of tyres valued at £2 10s: B. Laskey (Canterbury). Ninth.—£l 10s cash and set of tyres valued at £2 10s: R. Lovell (New Plymouth). Tenth.—£l 10s cash: R. A. Nicholson (Marton). Fastest Time. —Gold medal donated by Dunlop. Rubber Co., Ltd: North Island Roadi Championship and blue ribbon ; also £ls 15s in cash; C. Bint (New Plymouth ; 5 brs 3min Ssec. Second Fastest Time.—£s cash; R(Canterbury); shrs 3miu 40sec.
