KING’S THEATRE. TO-NIGHT. k “THE PILGRIM.” There should be a packed house '.at the King’s Theatre to-night, when a double star bill will be presented. Charlie Chaplin’s latest fourreel comedy will be the main Attraction. This is the longest comedy the king of all laughter makers has made since “The Kid,” it outrivals “the Kid” in every respect. ; Charlie is an escaped convict who 'dons the clerical garb, gets into the pulpit to deliver a sermon. The second attraction will be Katherine Macdonald’s latest First feature “Chastity”, a stirring story of a woman’s flight against scandal. ST. ANDREW’S CONCERT. A concert is advertised to be held in'St. Andrew’s Hall to-morrow (Friday) evening at 8 o’clock. Proceeds are in aid of the Church and organ funds. An attractive and varied programme has been arranged, performers new to a St. Andrew's audience, having promised support amongst them being Miss Maida Ward and Messrs Calson and Mc■Quinn (Eltham). SCIENTIST AND ASTRONOMER. Dr. D, Carpenter will lecture at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening next under the auspices of the .Chautauqua Association. It can be truthfully said that Dr. Carpenter is perhaps the best known popular Jecturer on scientific subjects in America. The secret of his amazing success in the lecture field) lies not so much tu the subject matter as in the man himself. He reduces the science of Astronomy to the capacity of the lay mind without robbing) it of its scientific value. His talks are vibrant with amazingly, interesting fact, aiu) through every sentence permeates the tremendous enthusiasm of a man of big ideas. The programme will also be contributed to by Eileen Pascoe Webb, contralto, and Lesbia Dobson, solo pianist© and accompanist. CARDIFF FOOTBALI. BALL. The third annual ball of the Cardiff Football Club is to be held on Tuesday next. MIDHIRST TO-MORROW. The plain and fancy dress ball at Midhirst to-morrow evening is for both chldren and adults.
