A ROUGH AND TUMBLE
WRESTLING WITH BURGLAR. WELLINGTON MAN INJURED. Per Pr rt «<» Aao^eiation. Wellington, July 19. The activities of ])ersons with burglarious intentions have been the subject of complaint from householders in various parts of the city and suburbs lately, several premises having been entered and articles removed. One evening this week, Mr Brook, custodian of the Victoria University College, returned home, when he noticed an unusual noise in, an upstairs room. Mr Brook went up to investigate i and on re aching the landing a man sprang at him out of tha shadows, knocked him down, and seriously assaulted him. Then he cleared out, leaving the unfortunate .custodian lying on the floor, his face considerably braised by the man 3 fist-werk. At one stage of tho struggle, Brook appeared to be getting the upper hand, but the assailant was more active and stronger. When Mr Brook’s wife returned home a little later she ‘found her busband'll a tottering condition. He declared that someone had tried to .murder him. Then he collapsed. Medical aid was summoned. Brook was found to be suffering from bruises and lacerations on the back and head. It is! unlikely he will be able to resume duties for several weeks,. The man gained admission by break- 1 ing a pane in) the kitchen window, thus enabling him to release tho catch. No booty was obtained. Parties of College students later engaged, in a fruitless search-for tho miscreant.
