WINTER CONDITIONS IN WEL-
LING TON.

- Wellington is now getting its share of the rain which has visited other parts of the Dominion, and winter has set in in earnest.
Since Saturday evening the wind turner to a southerly, with rain and hail squalls, which continue. At the best, the ground- must be bad for the final All-Black trial match to-morrow, and will make it anything but a real trial. BITTERLY COLD WEEK-END. Stratford and district wore again subject to rain and cold winds for the seventh week-end in succession, and though Sunday showed an improvement, the wind was still cold. Early in the evening, it seemed as if Jack Frost would make his appearance, but rjtyn fell dutvng the night, and to-day, though brighter \yitli sunshine, produced a strong wind which carried a freezy feeling on its wings.. The fo'coast of tha Government meteorologist (Mr Bates) received til's afternoon states : Strong to gale winds at times, but decreasing shortly. The weather will 'probably prove squally and showery, and the night will probably be very cold with frosts inland. The barometer has a rising tendency, but falling after about 36 hours.
