INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC. Wellington, September 4. Official fibres just available showthat except in Tarana&i, where 32 cases were reported last week, the influenza epidemic which raged from the south to the north has died down now to almost normal. There ha s been a. more serious outbreak than the isolated reports indicated. From the commencement of June until August influenza claimed 189 deaths, 151 deaths occurring in. six weeks. EGG EXPORT TO ENGLAND. Dimodin, September 4. '11)0 Oorinthic, which leaves- tonight, shipped over 12,000 dozen eggs from Otago, which, with Canterbury's shipment, makes a total of 23,000 dozen from the South Islaiid. The eggs were all taken on board without a single breakage. Mr J. B. Merrett, of Ghristchurch, will aocom-' pany the 'shipment, which, when complete, will total over 60,000 dozen. The eggs wore all . packed under Government supervision. It is expected the South Island will prepare a second shipment, to be sent early in October. The local market can easily spare the quantity required without affecting the price. TOKAANU STORE DESTROYED. Te Awamutu, September 4. A motor car wa« burned during the night on the road between Te Awamutu and Ohaupo, being completely destroyed.
